League of Legends is currently one of the most popular games around. The refined DOTA-clone in the absence of a better MOBA game dominates the scene. Unfortunately for Mac users Riot games has still not given us an official client to enjoy it. The company announced last year that it would launch a mac client but, alas, has not done so. The summer went by, fall went by and still nothing. During the summer though, Riot proceeded with a mac client beta testing for the North American server. It used Transgaming's Cider Technology for the client, meaning that it used a Mac Wrapper around the Windows client. For unknown reasons this did not have a happy ending with an official release. The good news is that we can use this Beta client to play on either, the NA or EU, server with a bit of fiddling. Forget all about the bootcamp crap or virtual machine crap. This is the real deal. Launch, play and enjoy LOL right from your Mac's Desktop as a native Mac OS X application.
Here is how:
- Download the beta client. You can download the beta client from a torrent (you are going to need a torrent client to download this, like μtorrent). Don't worry, it is perfectly legal(it's a free game after all). Also you can download via the rapidshare link provided by boompje(for specific instruction for the boompje link check here).
- Make sure that you have set your primary Mac Language as US English (System Preferences-> Language and Text) or it will crash during install.
- Install the game using one of the aforementioned methods.
- In some cases the application will close immediately after trying to open. If this happen do what is suggested here on page 18 by user felixjet
- Open your Application folder and Right-Click on LOL application. Select "Show Package Contents"
- Download the cracked LolLauncher.exe and replace the one found in Contents --> Resources --> Transgaming --> c_drive --> rads --> projects-> lol_launcher-> releases->0.0.0.xx->deploy.
- ONLY if you are planning to play on the NA Server: let the game update. Other wise if you are planning to play on the EU servers launch it and let it update AFTER you have configured everything else below.
- Go to : Contents -> Resources -> transgaming -> c_drive -> rads -> Projects -> lol_air_client_config_na -> releases -> 0.0.0.1 -> deploy
- Open the "lol.properties" file with you text editor.
- Replace the text inside the file

- You can now switch your Language Preferences back to normal.
- Enjoy the game.

Probably not. Riot games blocks IPs coming from Asia so you will not be able to join using a European or a NA account. Garena deals with SEA region for LoL and I am not aware if they use the same configuration and what the host addresses are.

Chances are that it will not play properly. You need a Mac with a dedicated graphics card.

Try setting all graphics options to "Low". Not "very low" or "medium". The beta client probably has some issues with some graphic cards and this is the only way to make it play properly.

Riot closed the BETA so you need to use a crakced launcher for the game. Right click on the lol application and chose 'show package contents'. James. If you start the update immediately it would start updating for the NA servers. So depending on if you want NA or EU start immediately or change the config/property files first.

Make sure that you first switch to the correct region you are planning to play and then update the game.
Reinstalling from the torrent is a solution when the game does not install correctly from the the downloader.

It says the installer file is damaged and it never gives me the option to press the play button. Also, my Adobe Air is up to date

The fact that this derives from a beta version of course does not guarantee that it will play ok for everyone.
However maybe something went wrong in the installation. You can try reinstalling and see what happens

Hi, I'm running on a NA server and everything has worked perfectly until I try to log in. It is constantly saying Login Error, server is currently busy. But I try on my other windows computer and the login works fine. I'm not sure why this is happening...

The game is identical to the windows version...in fact it is the windows version in a mac wrapper. So, yes, you can play with all the Heroes
same problm as connor i followed your steps exactly and the lol.properties file is as it should be but it won't let me login. do u need to have installed adobe air?
Adobe air needs to be installed but the 'busy server' issue is of a networking nature and does not have to do with adobe air.
Keep in mind that today starts the split of the game servers to east and west so this *will* cause issues, especially to the European players. (This has nothing to do wit macs as it will affect all the players)

If server status is 'busy' or 'down' you will not be able to hit the play button. Today is the big split in the european server to east and west...so if you are a european player that might be the case. it will take some time before Riot gets the server back online.

Here are a few tips that helped me increase the performances on my aging macbook 2,1 (core 2 duo 2,16Ghz, 2GB)
- If you play on an external screen then turn off the primary display to help the GPU (this may appear evident but to do so, you will have to close your macbook then wake it up with an external keyboard or mouse which I always found stupid in comparison to windows...);
- Turn off spaces (system preferences > Exposé and spaces;
- In Lol, select all the very low properties and also selet the high framerate option.
Doing this way I was able to play at 15 FPS at the beginning of a game (astonishing isn't it?) which is quite nice but don't even think to go in the scrum at then end because then the FPS will collapse to 3 or 4 which is unplayable. You will have to focus helping on the edges.
If you have other performances tips please share.

System Preferences-> International-> Language
I then proceeded to eliminate all languages and set"US English" as the top language, with "English" as second. I installed adobe air, however when i try to install LOL this happens. By install LOL i stimply double click the icon that was mounted to my dashboard.

If you are having problems with the installer you can download the torrent client. The act that there are no content in the package means that there was something wrong with the installation.

Did this, have several issues. In game, none of my keys work, so i have to manually click on every attack I want to use. Also, my chat doesnt work, and the camera does not move when i move it with my mouse, so i have to click on the map to move the camera. Please help

Try setting all graphical settings everything to 'low' (not "very low" or "medium", just 'low'). If this doesn't work Try messing around with the rest of the setting to see what happens
so I played two games and LoL worked perfectly however, during my third game LoL crashed. I rebooted it and joined back into the same game. Then about five minutes later it crashed again. I was wondering if this happens to everyone or if its because im playing it on a mac?
I play LOL only on a mac and I am not having any crashes. Your mileage may very of course since it is only based on a beta client. If you experiencing crashes try messing with the graphics settings and see if it makes any difference.

I did not make this game play on the mac...Riot Games along with Transgaming did. I simply explained how I made it work on my machine on which it plays fine. Your mileage may very.
Try to see if you have set up any shortcuts for the same keys. Mess around with the game configuration to see if it makes any difference.
For tryouts i suggest you do it the the tutorial or an AI game on you own.

Today I was looking for a game to play, discovered your help forum for LoL, and the begining and end of my problems that need trouble shooting is that after using your beta client torrent download link in the opening instructions, downloading it, my 10.4 PowerPc iBook g4 (Free like-new Lab computer from my dad) seems to think the torrent is for a different OS, or at least that's how I'm reading the message "You cannot open the application "League of Legends Installer" because it is not supported on this architecture." Unfortunately you cannot play the game if you are in Asia (it does not matter if you have windows or Mac). Rumor has it that Riot has partnered up with a company there to provide Asia servers but no one knows when this will happen.

Unfortunately you cannot play the game on an iBook since it has the old PPC processors. Only the new Intel-based macs are supported.

Sooo I used this guide and it's been working for the past 4 months. Big ups for that, but randomly today it won't even give me the patching screen. It says that LoL opens it just won't load the patching screen, it gives this error message "An error has occurred of type E_FAIL." it makes me sad. I redownloaded still won't work.
It downloaded okay and everything works fine. Until I get into a game the game screen goes white. I can still see the action bars and minimap but all i see on the game screen is HP bars. Does anyone know how i can fix this?

hey thank you so much for this, got it on my mac and it works great =] the only concern i have is, is it possible to incorporate the right click function to a mac mouse for this game? its either the running around and attacking with command+click or i did a little mod where the left click=the right click in my games but then i cant use any spells where you must select the target (i.e Sona is the only really champ useful for that). i was wondering if anyone knew a way to possibly fix this? thank you for your time and if there isnt i guess i ll just have to suck it up and use the command+click lol =]

I think that by default any mouse with a right button should work fine anywhere in the system. I have a generic bluetooth mouse that works fine in OSX and right click works by default.
At any rate changing the mouse preferences can be accomplished by going to
System Preferences->Mouse

Too bad, they just recently shut it down, also not offering any "Rewards" which they had promised to probably 90% of the users[including myself] who used the Mac Beta. Tsk tsk, I had no problems, barely anyone had problems. :\

You can play with you windows friends normally. As long as you are on the same server(NA, EU East, EU West) you can play together. As far as the server is concerned you playing on a mac is no different than someone playing on windows since you login to your account and it does not matter where you are or from what computer you log on from.
I uploaded a new and updated client on www.boompje.net . It has improved performances and various updates compared to the old clients.

Also, don't tell people anymore to change their server configuration in the LoL files. Tell people to just change server while patching. They can simply do that by clicking the server switch button.
The Felixjet post is also not necessary anymore and it even doesn't work anymore as fix.

I cant download the rapidshare files anymore its says that the link no longer exists how can i download it? (i am not good enough with computers to use the torrent unless its simpler than it seems because when i tried it it seemed very complicated) i had already downloaded the rapidshare files before but had deleted everything associated with LoL because i thought after sept 6 i couldnt play anymore but i read on how to fix it so i can play if i could download these files! please help!

I have the same problem. After the new patch with the new champ: Shyvana, the problem is starting.

I have done all the steps for the US server, and I was able to update, patch, and log in just fine. But when I went to start playing in an actual game, it minimized and "PVP.net" came up on my mac, but it was just a grey screen and wouldn't go to the actual game (so basically, I couldn't really play). Any advice?

Hi, I downloaded everything and its fine.
I join a game and its just a plain black screen that doesn't load.

I need some help, this is the third time i reinstalled the game, everything works fine until i join a game pvp-net shows up with a black screen and thats it, so I will get banned from the game without even playing?
This time im done installing cant log on, so i closed it, and now the launcher or pvp.net is not running but the launcher window is still open, when i press play nothing happens and when i try to exit it says:
PVP.net still running
Are you sure you want to quit? If you exit the launcher you cannot launch games while loggod into PVP.net?

I have downloaded it using Vuze on my OS X Tiger (10.4.11) and when I go onto resources in the package contents there is no transgaming only some country names with a .lproj in and a few .tiff's, .png's , .icns and a file names Sources. WHAT DO I DO!
