Watchmen: Blood, Latex and Rock 'n Roll

Ok, it's not exactly that, but it sounds like a great title and kinda represents my feelings over the movie. I just got back from the cinema and I am pretty excited. I can safely say that it was an excellent movie. I mean it had it all: good plot, great action, excellent cgi, cool taglines and dialog, humor, blood, more blood, hot women and silly blue dicks. If you are not excited by now I don't know when you will be.

The first part was a plot rollercoster giving us details of the various characters and situations that led to the movie's present. It actually works pretty well since you never get lost even if you never read the comic. It is very interesting to see the development of the story and at some point you start to empathize with some characters. As far as the story goes which I am not going to reveal here I have to say that I am happy. Kouvaristras (who is geekier than I am) wasn't entirely happy with the ending and got Spooky Mulder about it (something about the aliens and where the hell are they) but it really does not matter. It was a great film and everyone that I went to the cinema with fully enjoyed it from start to finish.

The soundtrack of the movie was very good and actually helped with establishing certain situations and feelings about the characters and the story. It included artists from the likes of Jimi Hendrix to Simon and Garfunkel which is very weird for a super hero movie. It worked very well nevertheless. The action was fantastic and was as much as it was needed it to be for us to enjoy it without getting bored. The movie contains a lot of gore scenes with lotsa blood which are very well done as well. At some points you are really going to enjoy mutilations, a fact that is highly disturbing if you ask me, but that's how good the action is.

In IMDB a gave it a nice round 8 which is as much I gave Dark Knight. In fact I think I enjoyed it more than Dark Knight. The pace was better, I liked the characters better and it had hotter women than weird looking S/M secretaries. Its not like someone can compare those two, other than they are both about people walking around in Latex suits, but we had the relevant conversation on the way back. Anyway...go watch it.. you will have great time!

For a guy with no general superhero education as well as premature or completely amateur knowledge of actual comic book or novel, that's me unfortunately, i must admit that the whole movie plots out quite respectively and surprisingly well. Although at certain points i found myself whispering :"gosh, no more superheroes, i'm done!" i must admit that this movie was much better than i had in mind before entering the theater with great performances, some well established in-movie sub-stories, strong characters an excellent soundtrack! Maybe the best movie soundtrack i have seen lately, since the time of "The fountain". OK, i agree, not including any of Tarantino's films. :)
As a conclusion, i have managed to earn this film a 7 in IMDB ratings which, taking in consideration that i am no comic fan i would say it's a quite well-earned, respectful overwhelming rating.
On the contrary, it couldn't help some overrated Hollywood facts, what we call "Amerikania". Don't you think?

On the contrary. I don't think this movie had anything of the "amerikania" nature in it. It was more of a parody to these sort of stuff. The soviets were not the bad guys..they were simply the opponents.
Nixon was a bastard and the establishment was evil. Made fun of large corporations and how they want to keep the enregy sources within their hands. There were no good-americans in the movie only psyconuts killers that worked for the goverment. There was no just war. The main super hero was a guy that could not get his dick up except when in suit. At the end the newspaper guy said that that last thing america needs is a cowboy in the whitehouse(G.W.Bush).

In my opinion the movie used all those old cliches as an arc to provide fun without taking them seriously. The original comic writer, Allan Moore, is what you would call an out-right anti american, anti establishment, anti everything. I will just say that he is the original graphic novel writer for the V for Vendeta.

"At the end the newspaper guy said that that last thing america needs is a cowboy in the whitehouse(G.W.Bush)."

The actuall line in the comic was "Who wants a cowboy actor in the White House?" an obvious reference to Ronald Reagan.

Anybody who thought that this film is full of ameracan propaganda obviously didn't get it, which is understandable.

Just like the comic requires many readings, this films begs for multiple viewings just to get a grasp of it's deeper meanings.

The best advice I can give you is: read the comic. It is by far one of THE best things I have ever read.

The film is a good transfer of the comic although I do have some issues with it, especially the finale.

I really want to watch the directors cut which I hope will be closer to the comic at some places.

Since its written in the 80s and revolves around the 80s its Ronald Reigan allright but nevertheless makes an nice addition for Bush as well.

Erazerhead chill... I did not look for any deeper meanings in the movie and I have not read the comic...and simply put I would not care about any deeper truths shown by Watchmen. I enjoyed it as it was... Blood, Latex and Rock 'n Roll....which was sweat!

and enough about the finale..we don't care about the aliens... the blue dicked guy did just fine for the smelly hippy conclusion...

First of all I am chill.
"I'm so cool that when I go to sleep, sheeps count me!" :P

Second, I am not talking only about the "aliens" in the finale. There are important character momments which were left out.

As for Dr Manhattan being the common enemy that unites the world against him, it is much less believable than an alien threat. Why? Think about it. Up until the blue penis left earth and went to Mars, he was America's hero. The symbol of their world domination.
Now, that same man attacks america's enemies and instead of them blaming america they want to be friends? I'm sorry but it's just a little hard to swallow.

Anyway just because I have some issues with the film doesn't mean I dont like it.
I really enjoyed it and I think it's an incredible achievement.
