A few days ago I made the grave mistake to buy a steam game. I got a duplicate key error during installation and I got caught up in steam's lame-ass support system. I am really angry about their total lack of respect for their customers and about their awful support procedures. Here are the updates on how this thing went:
*UPDATE 1
It has been now a little more than 12 hours and Valve still has not contacted me after my support request and I am still unable to play the original hard copy of the game. What are they waiting for...Christmas? Or maybe they got special FBI agents assessing that the photos of the receipt and the CD Key card i sent them have not been digitally edited. You are lame!
*UPDATE 2
It has been more than 24 hours now and I still have not played the game. I googled the whole thing and turns out that even if my account has been hijacked, a few months ago on the release of Left 4 Dead Valve and EA screwed up Big time and they filled the market with duplicate keys in the UK, Australia and South America. It took people an average of 5 days to get their games installed after the filed a ticket! I am getting even more angry now!

*UPDATE 3
The second day after I notified Valve has passed and not a word. I am still not able to install the game and still none has responded to my request for support. They make it so hard and bureaucratic for people to request support that you would think that they are super-efficient. But no, they suck. I sent them another request this morning but nothing. In MMOs that hundreds of thousand, or even millions of people are playing, the support team responds to you within an hour or so. For steam with its awful protection system and its ridiculous support system it takes days....lets see how many days it will get them to answer to my request and allow me to play the game that I gave them my money for.
*UPDATE 4
Today (3rd day of waiting) I was contacted from steam support. I wish they did not 'cause they made me even more angry. Here is their message:
Today (3rd day of waiting) I was contacted from steam support. I wish they did not 'cause they made me even more angry. Here is their message:
Thank you for contacting Steam Support.
Please write your Support Incident Reference No.xxx-xxx-xxx on the quick reference card or sticker above the CD Key (the number should not be written on a separate piece of paper or inserted with an image editor) and resubmit your scan or digital photo for review. Please ensure that you submit a full-color image, rather than a photocopy.
Note: Please use a pen with permanent ink and avoid marking over the CD Key code.
I sent them two photos already and they want a third. WHY? They want one with the incident number. I see absolutely no reason for that other than to piss me off. If it was to verify that I was the one that send them the support request..well it was me 'cause I send them the receipt(with my name on it) and the key reference card already. It does not make sense and personally I don't care about their stupid procedures. I want this whole thing to be over 'cause I got sick of them. The bureaucrats and civil servants would be so proud of them and their procedures. I am sure that some lame-ass manager thought of the whole thing. YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK, YOU SUCK!!!!!
I did send them back what they asked me this morning when I got their message and still nothing. I am still not able to install the game. Isn't the support department working on weekends? They take people's money during weekends from their steam e-shop why can't they support people as well? I am sick of them.
*UPDATE 5
Today (fourth day) I was contacted by the steam support team. They notified me that they had reset the key to my account. It was about time. They did not though wanted to leave it at that. They wanted to go out in style and annoy me one more time. Along with notifying me about the key reset they said the following:
Nothing wrong with that if you ask me BUT they did not actually changed anything, they just said they did! I tried the new password they sent me a few times in vain. Then I tried my old one and magically it worked. Totally ridiculous! They wanted to go out in style. The style that only steam support team knows. Way to go guys! YOU SUCK!

To ensure you have immediate access, I have reset your account password and sent the new login information in a separate e-mail.
If you do not receive the e-mail and you are running a Spam filter, check and make sure the e-mail is not being filtered as spam.
Your new Secret Question will be set to "What did customer service reset your password to?"
The answer to the Secret Question is the new password that we have sent to you as mentioned above.

QQ. youd rather have spore like drm?
I would rather have NO DRM or copy protection whatsoever. It is a stupid and ineffective way to battle piracy. Whoever wants to download something he will. Why do we have to suffer because some idiot manager thought that it would be a grant idea to screw everyone up with copy protection. If someone wants to download Half Life 2 from a torrent site he can, as well as anyone who wants to download spore he can. Why do I or anyone, for that matter, have to suffer an inefficient, ridiculous way of locking everything up. NO COPY PROTECTION!
lol, how come this shit always happens to you? I don't think I've ever used a software company's support system in my life. Anyway, just one comment - the 'final straw' in not resetting your password when they said they would... does not make sense. Seems to me that they just reset your secret question and the answer; since they say that is what they are referring to in the email they sent you. Later dude!
nope, they clearly said that they reset the password as well.
Just an update: after telling them that they did not change it and after asking them NOT to do it, they actually changed it!!!!
